A new, three-year deal from Yorkshire BS means there are decent rewards to be had for customers switching from the end of a fixed bond.

The building society’s three-year fixed-rate bond pays 2.4 per cent, making it the best deal on the high street.

It is also on sale through its offshoots Barnsley, Chelsea, and Norwich and Peterborough building societies.

Last week, Halifax cut its rates and now pays just 1.75 per cent over the same term.

Halifax’s two-year bond for savers opening an account also fell from 1.8 per cent to 1.6 per cent, while GE Capital launched a new deal at 2.2 per cent.

Halifax’s one-year deal also dropped to 1.4 per cent - less than the 1.5 per cent on the top branch-based easy-access account from Kent Reliance.

The best one-year fixed-rate bond on the High Street comes from Post Office, where the deposit-taker is Bank of Ireland, at 1.8 per cent.

On cash Isa deals, Barclays replaced its two-year fixed-rate deal at 2 per cent with a new version at a lower 1.8 per cent.

The best fixed-rate cash Isa for two years comes from AA Savings, where the deposit-taker is Halifax, at a tax-free 2 per cent.

For one year, Post Office pays a top 1.7 per cent, with Tesco Bank and Virgin Money paying a slightly lower 1.65 per cent.

Your annual cash Isa allowance of £15, 000 for this tax year will go up to £15, 240 for next tax year, which starts in April.
