New Scotland sweaters

Kate Middleton captured Prince William’s heart in Scotland. Now two of Scotland’s cutest ponies are well on their way to capturing ours.

The “Visit Scotland” tourism campaign recently released these adorable pics of Shetland ponies wearing Shetland sweaters on the Shetland Isles.

The ponies—Fivla in red and Vitamin in brown—are the poster animals for Visit Scotland’s Year of Natural Scotland. The tourism board is trying to entice visitors to Scotland by showcasing Scotland’s natural and historic beauty—its rolling green hills, rocky shorelines, and gloomy old castles. But these two cuties, posing in their “winter woolies, ” are the real stars.

“We were looking for a photo which encapsulated Scotland’s stunning natural landscapes, highlighted somewhere a little off the beaten track, and included some true Scottish locals, ” a Visit Scotland spokesperson told ABC News.

The ponies, also known as “pony ambassadors, ” are modeling custom-made Fair Isle cardigans. Local designer Doreen Brown handknitted the sweaters using lightweight fleece from Shetland sheep. The intricate interweaving of colors and patterns is unique to the Shetland Islands.
