In order to work in the real estate industry in Nova Scotia, you must be:
• 19 years of age
• High school diploma or equivalency (effective July 1, 2015)
• Able to legally work in Canada
• Complete Salesperson Licensing Course (SLC) either in the classroom, or online
• Pass the real estate exam with a minimum of 70 per cent
• Provide a Criminal Record Check acceptable to the Commission
Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Students must supply payment in order to complete registration. Students are also advised that there is a considerable amount of reading to be completed prior to beginning the course, therefore it is important to register sooner rather than later!
Salesperson Licensing Course Description
The course curriculum is designed to prepare individuals to enter the real estate profession with an acceptable level of technical knowledge, competence, and skills. The program utilizes an integrated learning design/system which includes a Salesperson Licensing Workbook, Forms & Solutions Booklet, Real Estate Encyclopedia – Canada Edition, and Provincial Reference Manual.
The Salesperson Licensing Workbook consists of ten units and 25 sub-units (sessions) and is designed for either classroom or online.
The classroom course is four weeks in length (9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. each day) and requires 100% attendance. Students have up to six months to complete the online course; they also have the option to audit three days of the classroom version.

Nova Scotia Real Estate Commission Salesperson Examination
Effective July 1, 2015, students may now write a maximum of one supplemental examination after failing their initial examination. If not successful on the second attempt, the student must re-take and complete the approved licensing course prior to writing a further exam. This may not be written sooner than one year from the last exam attempt.
Exams are written on the second Friday of every month. You must register for the exam and pay the $80 (plus applicable taxes) examination fee no later than 4:00 p.m. on Friday the week before the exam. Exams are written in the Commission office building at 7 Scarfe Court, Dartmouth and in designated Access Nova Scotia offices across the province. Applications are available in the Commission office and in the Licensing Forms section of the Commission’s website.
