Scotland FA's Twitter hinted at a potentially divisive new strip and delivered on Sunday with a hot pink design

Brown was wheeled out with Scotland Under-21 defender Callum Paterson along with Scotland Women’s representatives Rachel Corsie and Leanne Crichton after a performance from the Glasgow band Three Blind Wolves.

The reaction on Twitter since has been colourful, to say the least, with many comments not fit for print. One fan @RetroScot asked, 'Have you found my red sock?' while another, Liam Young, suggested designers took their inspiration from a pink highlighter.

The home gear is has dark blue tartan design on the front of the shirt with black adidas stripes on the white sleeves with white shorts and blue socks with a white band.

The new away ensemble replaces last year's white kit with 'rhubarb and custard' stripes but isn't as far removed from one previous strip as many might think.

In 1999, Scotland were sporting a salmon shirt with a dark blue band and dark blue shorts.
