Service Nova Scotia, in partnership with Acadian Affairs, have developed a new French-language licence plate celebrating Acadian and francophone culture. The colourful licence plate features an image of the Acadian flag with the words Nova Scotia, Nouvelle-Écosse across the top.

The Acadian flag licence plate is now available from any Access Nova Scotia or Registry of Motor Vehicles Office.

The Acadian flag licence plate will be issued in sequential order to passenger (cars and station wagons) and light commercial vehicles up to 5000 kgs (trucks and vans).

Registration Fees

The registration fee for an Acadian flag licence plate will be the standard vehicle registration fee associated with the class and weight of the vehicle being registered. In addition, a $50 donation will be collected at the time of initial issuance of the plate and on renewals. The $50 donation will be directed to the Vive l'Acadie Community Fund.

• Applicants can replace their current passenger licence plate with an Acadian flag licence plate upon surrender of their old plate and payment of the $50 donation. Applicants do not have to wait for their normal biennial renewal.
• Future renewals: regular plate renewal fees and the $50 donation will be collected.
• The cost of replacing a lost or stolen Acadian flag licence plate is $5.80.
• Insurance information is required each time a vehicle registration (plate) is issued or renewed. A Statement of Insurance form must be completed for in-person and mail requests. For online renewal requests, you will be asked to provide this information electronically.

Vive l'Acadie Community Fund

The Vive l'Acadie Communtiy Fund is administered by Acadian Affairs. The funds will be used to support Acadian and francophone community projects. You may obtain more information about the Vive l'Acadie Communtiy Fund by visiting Acadian Affairs.

Acadian flag

The Acadian flag was adopted during the second Acadian Convention in 1884 in Miscouche, Prince Edward Island. Nearly identical to France's national flag, the Acadian flag is distinguishable by its gold star in the upper left hand corner. The gold star is called the Stella Maris, the star of the sea, and serves as a symbol of guidance, hope and protection for Acadians worldwide.
