Amherst is a large town in Nova Scotia, Canada, slightly inland from the Bay of Fundy and three miles from the New Brunswick border. Originally settled by loyalists to England during the American Revolution, Amherst is located along the Trans-Canada Highway. Attractions in the immediate area include outdoor recreational activities such as boating and fishing in the Bay of Fundy. The somewhat limited lodging in and around Amherst includes a couple of chain-style hotels and inns with their own restaurants.
Amherst Wandlyn Inn
Guests at the Amherst Wandlyn Inn have a scenic view of the Bay of Fundy shoreline and are within two miles of the New Brunswick/Nova Scotia border. The inn has 88 rooms, a restaurant and a cocktail lounge. Additional facilities include an indoor swimming pool, fitness center, hot tub and laundry room. The Amherst Wandlyn Inn was the winner of the Amherst Area Chamber of Commerce Environmental Award in 2009. The Cumberland County Museum, which is dedicated to the industrial and social history of Cumberland County, is 10 minutes from the inn. The Joggins Fossil Cliffs can be reached in half an hour.
Super 8 Amherst
Located right off a Highway 104 exit, the Super 8 Amherst is across the street from the Amherst Centre Mall. It is also within a mile and half of the Amherst Stadium, Amherst Golf Club and Amherst Curling Club. A feature at the Super 8 is its heated indoor swimming pool with a water slide and a spa area. Guests are served a free breakfast, and rooms are equipped with safes, microwaves and refrigerators. Situated within a few minutes of an exit of the Trans-Canada Highway, the Super 8 has 50 rooms, including suites with Jacuzzis and separate living rooms and bedrooms. This is a relatively new hotel, having opened its doors in 2004.
Comfort Inn
The Comfort Inn is conveniently located less than two miles from the Amherst Town Square, the Amherst Centre Mall, Tantramar Theatre, Amherst Curling Club, Amherst Golf Club and Amherst Stadium. The Joggins Fossil Cliffs can be reached in 15 minutes, and the Bay of Fundy is six miles away. This is a largely no-frills establishment, although it does serve a free continental breakfast. Refrigerators are available to rent. The Cumberland County Museum is a little over a mile from the hotel. For those who feel like hiking and getting some fresh air, two trails are also approximately one mile away. Public beaches are available within 10 miles.
