Bridgewater police have called in the RCMP's forensic identification team after a woman's body was found Monday in a wooded area.
"At approximately 1:05 p.m., a couple of our members came upon a deceased person here in the woods situated off North King Street in Bridgewater, " said Bridgewater Police Chief John Collyer.
Collyer said police had been looking for a missing woman in her 50s in the area on Monday morning.
"At this time, we don't know whether the deceased we have here is related to that missing person file, " he said.
Police are treating the death as suspicious. They will not say how long the body appeared to have been in the woods.
An autopsy is planned for Tuesday.
