Sun for Tuesday, but Nova Scotia weather turns messy mid-week

Kalin's weatherMostly clear and cold conditions are expected in Nova Scotia overnight thanks to an area of high pressure moving in from the west, but things get messy by mid-week.

If you are looking to take advantage of some night sky viewing, it's a February full moon tonight, often referred to as the snow moon. The planet Jupiter should also be visible above the moon just before sunrise Tuesday.

If you are going to be outside late tonight or early tomorrow morning, dress for it. Low temperatures of -16 C to -10 C are expected, except -10 C to -7 C in Cape Breton and on the Atlantic coastline.

With high pressure in place, it's a sunny forecast for Tuesday. Some fair-weather broken cloud is expected to develop over Cape Breton during the afternoon. Winds will be initially out of the north but begin to turn southwest late in the day at 10 km/h to 20 km/h.

High temperatures Tuesday range from -6 C to 0 C.

Expect to see increasing cloudiness Tuesday. (CBC)

Expect to see increasing cloudiness Tuesday night with flurries developing in the southwest of the province leading to possible accumulations of a few centimetres.

That's the start of a messy mid-week round of weather for us. The warm front associated with an area of low pressure moving up the St. Lawrence River Valley will bring a period of snow that turns quickly to rain.

Accumulations in the snow for most of the province won't exceed two centimetres to five centimetres before the rain takes over. Temperatures will rise into the range of 2 C to 6 C for the afternoon and continue to rise overnight into Thursday morning.
